«Manchester United» — «Liverpool» prediction by Oma Akatugba. Premier League

Club football returns after the international break and Manchester United will host current Champions League holders, Liverpool at the theatre of dreams

United are in bad shape and having to face an excellent Liverpool side looks like a mountain too high to climb. Liverpool sits on top of the league table with 24 points, 8 points ahead of closest rival, Manchester City who won the league last season but by bristles. Joggen Klopp's men have been in an exquisite form so far garnering all available points in their eight league games, essentially continuing from where they left off last season. How far they can maintain such a solid form remains to be seen. But they will be going to the Old Trafford with absolute confidence, facing a united side, not just terrible but also depleted. The red devils (you wonder if there is still anything devilish about them) have managed to win just two of their opening eight games of the season, sitting on no 12 spot on the league table. That is 15 points behind Liverpool which highlights the gulf in class between these two teams.

Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are both sidelined for this game as well as David De Gea who picked up a groin injury in Spain's European qualifier against Sweden.

"David needs a scan" United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer told sky sports. "I think he will be out. It certainly looked like it anyways judging on last night so its just one of those things".

United will now have to make do with Argentina`s Sergio Romero who will be making his first league appearance having only featured in the Europa League and the Carabao cup so far.

Ole Gunner Solskjear will be banking on the likes of Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw and Aron wan Bisaka to push for a starting place after they returned from injury as united would be needing every weapon in their arsenal to try and get something decent from this game.

Liverpool, on the other hand, will be coming well oiled and fully packed for this one with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk leading the backline, the holy trilogy of Saidio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firminho upfront, you want to imagine that United, a team that lacks character, control and creativity will have their work cut out and might not have what it takes to match the intensity of Liverpool who are way better in every department.

Prediction

As much as Liverpool are clear favourites going into this game, it must be noted that across all competitions, Liverpool have won just once in their last 13 visits to Old Trafford and that was in March 2014. The statistic above seems to be the only thing that favours united in this game however, history has no place in a football match as current form and how the teams play on the day is what holds sway and going by these two elements, it is normal to put your money on Liverpool. On that note, I am going for a straight win for Liverpool with a 3-1 scoreline and at an odd of 11 plus, of course, over 2.5. Liverpool is just too strong for Manchester united to handle at this particular point in time.
